Nick Lascuola Wins DAV Legends; Ninth in Late Model Debut

Nick Lascuola of Abington, Massachussetts had an extraordinary
weekend at Seekonk Speedway this weekend, winning the Nick’s Pit Stop INEX
Legends feature on Friday and finishing in the top 10 in his first ever Late Model race
at Seekonk on Saturday with the new Champion Spark Plugs / Barrett’s Haunted
Mansion machine.
In Friday night’s Legends race, Nick started on the pole and led every lap en-route to
his first ever Legends DAV win. There wasn’t a bigger smile in the pit area at the
conclusion of the night.

“What an amazing season this has been,” the driver said, beaming proudly. I just
don’t even know what to say. This is the DAV and we’ve now won three times in five
starts with our lowest finish being third. I’m sure that’s going to be hard to equal
tomorrow in the Late Model but I’ll be real happy if we just finish all the laps and roll
it in the trailer without too much damage since it’s my first time out. I need to learn
for 50 laps and stay out of trouble.”

He did more than just “stay out of trouble”. After a bobble early in the event, Nick
ran down the field from half-a-straightaway back and began picking off cars. He got
as high as sixth, racing veteran Bobby Pelland for several laps on the outside before
spinning and having to restart at the tail. He worked his way back to ninth place and
his trademark smile was back as he pondered the weekend’s events.

“The car was just spot on today,” he said after the Late Model race. “I know that
because I have no experience other than some practice yesterday and somehow I
still drove to sixth and had the fourth fastest lap of the race. It’s amazing the things
you can accomplish when you have no clue what you’re doing! One thing I learned is
that if you race too hard early you burn up the right rear and we did that after about
lap 35. I will make a note of that for next year.”

Of a late race bobble that almost caused his second spin he joked, “I lost the grip
that I didn’t have! I decided I’d better ease off and settle for ninth instead of trying
to race so hard for position. We got tagged in the door when I spun but other than
that we kept it pretty clean and ran really well so we accomplished our goal for today
and more. Thanks to my team and all of my sponsors and supporters. This was an
unbelievable season and I don’t get credit for that. A lot of people helped in a lot of
different ways to make all this happen. I can’t thank them all enough for what they
do for our team and for me. I am looking forward to next year!”
