Abington, Mass – Nick Lascuola, 15, of Abington, Massachusetts traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina last weekend to attend the season-ending banquet for the INEX Legends Cars where he was honored as the Massachusetts state champion and for finishing ninth in the national points series in 2012.
“I can’t thank my family, friends, and supporters enough for all they do for me,” the humble racer said. “Being able to go to Charlotte, stand up on the stage with some of the top young racers in the nation and receive my awards was pretty special. It was a fun trip even though we were only down there for a day!”
Nick finished first in Young Lions points and third overall in Seekonk Speedway’s Legends Car standings last season. He plans to chase the track championship once again in 2013. He also expects to make his debut in a Late Model stock car at some point during this year.
Nick has also garnered considerable media attention in Massachussetts with the launch of his campaign to raise awareness for cancer-related charities.
“My Grandma is a cancer survivor and has a stoma because of it. We do our best to give back to local causes and charities and I wondered how we could make cancer awareness a part of that. We had entered a contest put on by Champion Spark Plugs with a top prize of $50,000 in sponsorship for this season and I suggested one idea would be to take $5,000 of that if we were lucky enough to win it and donate it to something cancer-related in honor of my Grandma. The media picked up on it and it ran in 11 papers across the state. I’m really thankful for that because I hope it motivates more people to get involved and give what they can to help find a cure.”
Nick’s past efforts to help others have included working with local police benevolent programs and a foster care organization. “I believe in giving back,” Nick said. “I have a family that loves me and sacrifices so much for me, and we have so many good friends who’ve come on board to help me with my racing. I really enjoy using our racing program to make a difference for others whenever we have an opportunity.”
